Artists Bio’s

CORMAC BOYDELL.

Cormac continues to explore different media, including glass, minerals, drawing and printing, so as to broaden his studio work.

Artist’s Statement. ‘I am inspired by Prehistoric and tribal art, van Gogh, early Matisse, the New York abstracts of the 1950’s, Beuys, Tapies and Barcelo amongst others and the incidental abstraction that surrounds us. What is important to me is a close relationship with materials, the enjoyment of art as a medium of communication, and a sense that art has a spiritual centre.’

I have been lucky enough to represent Claire from the day the gallery opened in 1991. She had finished in Cork and was just finding her feet in Cardiff. It has been a joy to sell her work for 20 years. Claire is now recognised as one of the world’s leading ceramic artists.  Francis Keane 2010.

After spending 17 years in London Christy Keeney returned to his native Donegal where he now lives and works. His Sculpted slab built heads and figures demonstrate a wonderful sence of draughtmanship as details are drawn into the wet clay surface. “I see my work as 3D paintings. The form is built up and scetched till almost flat, like a canvas, ready to take the drawing which will outline the figure or head.In the figures, I make an attempt to express the human spirit in all it’s many forms. I like to work blindly letting the moment dictate my progress. When I see the form develop to some conclusion, I`ll then add the features. The heads are a study of the many varied features, and expressions that make up the human face”.

Jim TurnerJim Turner is one of Ireland’s leading ceramic artists. With a consistent dedication to exploring new directions in ceramic art, he combines skilled work with elements of chance to produce extraordinary results.

Jim’s current work is focused on creating textured surfaces unique to the ceramic process. The bottle, trophy and pod sculpture forms are constructed from altered extrusions and paper-clay sheets.

These surfaces are treated like a canvas. Layers are built up with the slips and glazes which are applied using brushes, sponges and slip

Jim’s work has been widely exhibited both in Ireland and abroad and

Martha Cashman
Ceramic and Porcelain Sculpture

Marthas most recent work is in glazed paper porcelain. Very fine kitchen utensils (non functional), some pieces interspersed with woven wire, carved birch and ash wood to accentuate and enhance the delicate white porcelain.  The pieces are either box framed using limed ash or hung simply from rusted nails.  Pieces from this body of work have been bought by the UCC Art Archive Collection, CIT Art Collection and the Crawford Student Collection.

Martha’s work pays homage to the teachers of her past.  “The farm helpers and local women who visited and helped my mother in the house. Their understanding of the daily running of a small farm holding impacted on me greatly and led me to appreciate and respect the land we took from daily.”

The ceramic pieces on the right have been exhibited in a travelling show titled Womanagh, inspired by irish rural teachings and a disappearing traditional style of living.

Christy Keeney studied ceramics at the Royal College of Art in London And he has also been commissioned by the sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi and HRH Prince of Wales.

Jim’s work has been widely exhibited both in Ireland and abroad and

trailers much as a painting. They are then fired to 1300 C, subjecting them to the chance of the firing process. Some pieces are fired again at a lower temperature with lustres. This technique seems to encapsulate some primeval mood in the landscape.is in many private and public collections including the Crafts Council of Ireland.

about:

st recent work is in glazed paper porcelain.
